The Department of Physics in one of the oldestdepartments of Govt. Digvijay Autonomous PG College. The Department ofPhysics was established in 1959 with UG program and in 1997 PG program withElectronics Specialization and in 2007 Add on Course(EEM) Electronic Equipment Maintenancewas introduced. Since its inception, the department has crossed severalmilestones. The Department offers undergraduate program – B.Sc. courses andpostgraduate program - M.Sc. ( Physics  withelective system). The Department is also recognized centre for Ph.D. program inPhysics. The department has undertaken minor and majorresearch project's supported by funding agencies such as UGC & CG cost andAutonomous. It has also organized one International  conferences. Several research papers have beenpublished in various National and International journals by the faculty apartfrom publication of a book .All courses offered by the department are designedaccording to the needs and demands of current industrial sectors and to makethe students competent at local, national, and global level.

                          The department presently caters about 300 UG, 30 PG students and 01research scholars with 03 qualified Regular faculties. Each faculty hasspecialized knowledge in different branches of Physics. Faculty members areactive in educational sphere and contribute to academic and research fields invarious capacities like resource persons, reviewers, authors, members ofacademic/governing bodies, members of various boards – Editorial, Interview,etc. Equipped with a state-of-the-art instrumentation facility, departmentallibrary, and ICT tools and we provide NET/SET and IIT-JAM classes. we arecounted amongst the best departments for education in Physics across the stateof Chhattisgarh which provides a comprehensive teaching and researchenvironment in the Physical Sciences.

                          The journey from a small department teaching undergraduate students in1959 to engaged in research activity is a result of coordinated effort ofdedicated faculty. The department has contributed immensely to the collegebeing accredited B++ grade by NAAC. The department strives to achieve its primeobjective - to produce and train technical and scientific personnel of thehighest order of excellence having scientific aptitude and high morale.
